DO NOT BUY FROM SEARS!!!
We bought a kenmore washer and dryer from sears and were told we would get a $75 rebate. Because we got a 5% discount for opening a credit card they are not denying our rebate. I don't want your crappy 5% discount for your crappy credit card. Give me my $75. Please forward this to everyone you know. I will do whatever I have to get the word out that sears is a bunch of liars and no one should buy from them. I'm tweeting, writing blogs, I'll make a youtube video if I have to.
The last 6 years ago today!
It is the last one!
We left off with Hubby asking me if he could take me out to dinner on Friday night.
I said, "Of course! You want to take me out on a real date? How sweet!"
You know how college boys are, they like to do the "hang out" thing and rarely take girls on dates. So I figured that is what Hubby and I were doing. I was so surprised when he wanted to take me on a date!
I don't remember what I wore that night. I don't really remember getting ready. I think Hubby showed up on time and rang the doorbell. I think my roommate answered the door. I remember walking to the door and he had something behind his back. It was a dozen red roses!!! I had never had a boy bring me flowers on a first date! My roommate said, "I knew he was going to bring flowers!"
We went to a little family owned Italian restaurant in downtown Chico. Sadly it is no longer in business. But when we lived there it was one of our favorite places. We like restaurants that give you bread.
I remember conversation being easy. I remember him slurping his linguine with marinara. Guys, just a tip, I wouldn't eat pasta on a first date if you are a slurper. But I think I must have already been in love, because I didn't care.
I don't remember what else we did that night.
It was the best first date I ever had. It was our anniversary that we celebrated for 5 years together. Today we will not say happy anniversary to each other because we have a new anniversary, our wedding anniversary!

Wedding Album
The place we got married at offered many different wedding packages. You could pick one and build on it or take from it as you wanted. My parents decided to go with the "sweet and simple" package and add things to it that we wanted. The "sweet and simple" package included two photographers all day on our wedding day. It did not include a wedding album. We figured, ok, no big deal, we will get one later.
I had a few bridezilla moments, but I definitely don't think they could have made a 30 min show about me being a bridezilla. I had a few things that I cared about and a lot of stuff I didn't. It is interesting to go through the wedding planning processes because you often don't know until you are going through it what you will become a bridezilla over.
I am a scrapbooker and have friends who made their wedding albums on kodakgallery.com. I also have friends who have professional wedding albums. Having a professional wedding album was one of the things I ended up caring about and wanting.
So, my dad contacted the photographer about an album. He said to contact the place we got married at. The told my dad we could get a $1,000 album or a couple hundred dollar, smaller, engagement type album.
Uh, thanks? Because we were given the rights to the photos we were lucky enough to be able to take the pictures elsewhere. I asked a photography friend how much she would do the album for. She said $500 ish. It still felt too steep. So I posted on facebook that I was struggling with this cost. My friend told me about blurb.com. It is a website you can make your own photo book at. I was exploring the site and thinking it was really cool, when I found blurbnation. It connects you with people who have already made books and make them for clients. I thought, "Someone to do it for me? How much will it cost?"
I found lifesong and emailed them for a quote. Andrew sent me an email back with several different book options and prices. They were about $150-$200. I told him I liked his prices and what was the next step. I had to upload photos to his website. It was easy. Chosing the photos to put in the book can be difficult. I had already made my mom a scrapbook so I knew which photos I liked. I also had to give him a $100 deposit.
Once the pics were uploaded and the deposit sent he had a book made for me. The photographers at our wedding didn't put the pics in choronological order and the order got messed up when I uploaded them so Andrew had them in that order. I told him what order I wanted things in and what changes I wanted made and he had another book made the next day. We went through 4 drafts I think and I felt like such a crazy person but he didn't mind at all. He wanted me to be happy.
The only surprise I had was when he sent me the final invoice. It was $26 for shipping. So if you decide to use him, keep that in mind.

favorite recipes
I'm participating in Top 2 Tuesday!
In my opinion we eat really good over here at casa de Megs7827. But Hubby and I are also picky/boring eaters. We also have topic secret recipes. Hubby uses my Nana's recipe to make the best cookies on the planet! People regularly beg us for the recipe. I posted on facebook last night "who likes Hubby's cookies?" And these are the responses I got: "U KNOW WE DOO", "They are the best cookies in the world!", and "I do! I do!! I do!!! I do!!!! I do!!!!! I do!!!!!! I do!!!!!!! Can The Big Guy take a hint?". Our neighbor asked if he put concentrated orgasms in them.
It was so hard to pick our two favorite recipes. I was yelling from the other room, "If you had to eat two recipes the rest of your life what would they be." But he couldn't pick. We love to marinate chicken or steak and bbq it. Costco has the best chicken, flank steak, and tri tip. We use the Yoshida's marinade they sell there. Hubby loves their shrimp prawns for bbq or pasta. We are going to start eating more salmon from Costco as well. He broilers it in lemon and spices or bbqs it in aluminum foil. We love our taco Thursday. He make the white corn tortillas by putting them in a pan of evoo to get them kinda crispy. We cook the chicken in Lawry's chicken taco seasoning. We use Knorr's Spanish rice. He puts beans. Costco mexican cheese, sour cream. Sometimes I do lettuce and red onions or green onions. Yumm! He also makes calzones from pillsbury's pizza dough. Some marinara, cheese, pepperoni, folds it over and cooks each side for 10 mins then 5 mins. Those are just some ideas you can play around with. Here are some recipes that you can follow the steps on:
I like the first recipe because it has all your food groups, is cooked in one pan, is quick, and healthy!
Chicken and Rice with Vegetables
You will need:
1 tbsp. oil
1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
3 cups cut up vegetables (we do broccoli and carrots)
14 1/2 ox can chicken broth
1 cup minute brown rice
1 cup minute white rice
Italian dressing (this is a kraft recipe so that what they recommend, we use Olive Garden's)
Heat the oil in a large skillet on medium heat. Add chicken. Add vegetables after chicken looks pretty close to cooked. Cook and stir for 3 to 5 mins. Stir in broth. Bring to a boil. Add brown rice and dressing. Cover and cook 5 mins. Add white rice and water if needed. Cover and cook 5 mins. Check to make sure rice is cooked. Serve!
Hubby and I love PF Changs lettuce cups. So I was excited when I found this recipe because it sounded yummy and easy. Which it is!
Caesar Lettuce Cups
You will need:
1lb chicken
salt and pepper
2 cloves garlic minced
1tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
iceberg lettuce
Cook chicken in frying pan. Season with salt and pepper. Add garlic, then Worcestershire sauce and cheese. Separate cups of lettuce. Scoop mixture into leaf. Optional add croutons or red onion. Serve!

The wedding band FINALLY!!!
Because rings are so high maintenance and you have to get them cleaned and checked every six months, I wanted my wedding ring to be from the same jeweler as my engagement ring. I'm not going to different places to get my rings cleaned.
Since Hubby didn't want to pay$1,820.00 ranging upwards of $2,790.00 for this ring, I was not planning on going with Tacori.
My mom and I went to Devons when I was home for my bridal shower. The man that helped us knew of a ring he thought would go well with my engagement ring. But he had to get the ring from another store.
My mom and I went back the next day and the ring was a great price and looked great with my engagement ring. So I put money down to hold it. Hubby came back another time and bought the ring for me. I was so excited for the day Hubby put that special ring on my finger!
Can you tell it isn't the same designer?

What happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay in Vegas!!!
If you have been a follower since September 2009 you might remember a little post about our Bachelor/Bachelorette Party in Vegas. If not you can go back and read about it here. In that post I mentioned the scavenger hunt list my friend N came up with. There were things on the list that I thought Hubby would not be happy about. The worst part was that my friend S took about 300 pictures of me doing everything on the list. Hubby ended up not being mad about anything making the weekend one of the best weekends ever! This weekend, S gave me a scrapbook she made of the best pictures. Its so cute and I love it! In case you have a bachelorette party coming up, here is a list of 50 things similar to the list N gave me. I think there were like 10 things on my list. I threw the list away when we got back to our hotel. I didn’t want Hubby to see it! I will tell you that I did some of these things on this list. But I will never tell which ones! Blah...
Sorry guys, I am not feeling my usual hilar self. I had the Sunday night blues last night. They seem to have carried into Monday. I don't like to talk about work on here. I do talk about my relationship a ton though. Since Hubby and I work together it is all intertwined. I have cherished the past, wow! 5 months working with him. He has been asked to do an assignment out of the office for potentially 45 business days. I am lucky that it is still in town and I will get to see him every night. Just adjusting to work life without him today.
Enjoyed catching up on several blogs today. Now blogger is doing something weird or maybe its my computer. Got a Vegas! post for you to look forward to tomorrow. Hopefully I will get that wedding ring post together tonight too for this week. I took pics this weekend. Now I have to upload! I wanted to take hair pics this weekend but wasn't feeling it.
The big Birthday! celebrations start this weekend. My friend's birthday is Feb. 5th and her husband called my husband to see if we were free Friday night. So we might be surprising her. Sounds like a good time. Then Saturday night is the dinner celebration for my birthday and my friend B. Cheesecake factory here we come!!! I was hoping to look great for my bday. Maybe its time for a trip to Target for a $20 dress.
This weekend when we went to Target we had an unusually weird experience. We are still using gift cards from the wedding and I think Hubby said something to the cashier like, "This is our last gift card from our wedding." The woman's eyes lit up! "Oh you are newlyweds! How long have you been married?" We responded, "About 3 months." There were people in line behind us so we were starting to gather our merch and head for the door. Apparently doesn't care about other customers goes, "Where did you go for your honeymoon?" Us wondering if this convo will ever end, "Santa Barbara." When I answered I looked down and noted that she was not wearing a wedding ring. I think crazy asked us something like, "Do you love being married?" Hubby responded with, "It isn't that different." You guys know, we lived together for a couple years before getting hitched and I didn't change, still hate dishes, still love reality tv. I'm not mad at Hubby's response, I agree. As we start to walk away she almost yells, "Well its supposed to be!" I was closest to her and was the only one who heard. Um... thanks? Freak show!

Six years ago today (special Saturday edition)
Oh I forgot to mention yesterday that we don't really consider any of these an anniversary. I thought it was weird when I did the NYE post and people said Happy Anniversary. Um, happy anniversary of your husband ignoring you at a party? Yeah I try not to think about that! I'm not sure if we will still celebrate our dating anniversary. Its been six years people! We are kind of over it. I forgot about our three month wedding anniversary. Ok on with the epic love story!
So, Hubby called me. Even though both Hubby and his best friend at the time were showing interest in me, I was not looking for a relationship. I always give other people looking for love the advice that it will happen when you aren't looking for it. Because that is what happened to me. I was focused on school and having fun with my friends. So Hubby was trying to chat it up with me and I was trying to get him off the phone. Also the reason I tease him and say I never actually gave him my phone number. I told him to call R at her apartment. I started to give him the number when I remembered he probably had it since his ex girlfriend lived there. Yeah, awkward!
So I got off the phone with him and talked everything over with my roommates. They were dying to know which boy I liked. I am the total drama queen and I remember rolling on the kitchen ground because the whole situation was awkward and I did not want to be any part of it. Plus my roommates and I were weird and rolled on the ground frequently. Best friend at the time had some major minus points. He had a two week dating rule and some other problems. Hubby had the minus point of his ex girlfriend being an acquaintance and living just down the street from me. I had two, count em, two previous boyfriends that went back to their ex girlfriends. I was a little convinced it was my curse. Did not want to get involved in drama with an acquaintance and didn't want to send another one back to their ex. I decided to see what would happen that night roller skating.
Well, best friend at the time didn't show up. So it ended up being a double date. Oh I should mention, we weren't regular roller skaters. I think R and her boyfriend wanted to go cause they hadn't been in a long time. We haven't been since. Anyways, Hubby totally swept me off my roller skates! He held my hand during couples skates. He told the dj it was my birthday. He told me his was totally over his ex. Bought me a slurpee.
Then we decided to go back to my apartment and watch a movie. Hubby put his arm around me while we were watching the movie. I don't remember where R and her boyfriend were sitting. I just remember that best friend at the time showed up and sat on the other side of me. It was beyond awkward! Then there was a stand off! R and her boyfriend left after the movie. So I was stuck with the two boys and it felt like they both thought whoever stayed last would end up with me. I know, you are surprised I'm still alive!
Best friend at the time finally left! Hubby and I watched MTV and talked until 6am. You know how the videos and the intro are different in the morning. It is called like jump start or something. Yeah it changed to that and I was like um bed time!
We continued to hang out throughout the week. Then he asked me if he could take me on a date on Friday night. I will continue with when he picked me up for our date next week!

Six years ago today
If you need a refresher go here and if you need to go further back the link is there.
My roommates and I were having a great time at a friend's apartment. My friend R called and wanted to hang out. So she, her boyfriend, and Hubby came over.
I must have been looking good that night because Hubby and his best friend at the time were both flirting with me.
The details are fuzzy due to my memory and having some drinks that night. I remember there wasn't too much going on at the friend's apartment so we decided to go over to best friend at the time's house. We all crammed in Hubby's car. He hadn't been drinking. Don't worry. He had a two door. R and her boyfriend crammed in the back. Some how her cell phone fell out of her purse or something. We hung out some more. Hubby showed a little interest in me. Best friend at the time showed a little interest in me. We then made plans to all go roller skating the next day.
Later R realized she had lost her phone and started calling Hubby from my phone. Maybe she was using her boyfriend's phone for the number and mine to dial. I swear none of this was planned. Unless Hubby and R planned it. But anyways, she gave him my number to call back on to discuss the phone.
The next day, Hubby called me...
to be continued tomorrow!

I was going to wait until Monday to post this, but its done so here ya go
*tell me that is the face of a girl who is just in love with the idea of being married.
I was recently asked by an acquaintance of mine how married life was going. I told them that I love being married. The acquaintance who, in my opinion, doesn't know me very well, said they think I am just in love with the idea of being married. This person asked me how I know that Hubby is the one. I was going to say when you feel complete or something along those lines which sounds to me like a cheesy movie line, so I said, when all the cheesy movie lines are true. The person asked me how I could know Hubby was the one when I hadn't been with anyone else. Like I said this person doesn't know me very well. I don't exactly know what they meant by "been with". I didn't want to ask, because I didn't want to clarify on my end. I took it as that person thinking I hadn't dated very many people.
To address the first issue I have, being accused of just being in love with the idea of being married. I told the person to read my blog because I felt like none of you would ever think that. I honestly feel like this is the only person that has ever met me that has thought this. But who knows. If you agree please let me know, I wouldn't be mad.
My parents have been married for 30 years. Around 22 I figured out that they are pretty much the smartest people I have ever met. Not only are they book smart, they read, they graduated college, and are successful. But they are smart at making relationships work. Hello! 30 years!!! I am an only child. I dated Hubby for 5 years before he proposed. I talk to my parents for hours almost every day on the phone and when I see them. Don't you think they would have said something if they thought I was getting married just because I was in love with the idea of being married? They have told me things before like they know he is in love with me because they have seen how he looks at me. They know we will be able to make it because we lived together in 600 sq ft for a couple years. And they love him. We are all one big happy family now. Any doubts now? Any questions? Email me.
The second issue, I haven't been with anyone else. I didn't start dating until 16. But guess what, that wasn't Hubby. I had a first high school boyfriend. He taught me to be a little less trusting. But he also made me feel loveable. I don't know what else you are supposed to learn from your high school boyfriend. The rest of high school I realized boys were too much drama and I spent time with my amazing friends both male and female. I learned from those who were going through drama that high school relationships were stupid! I learned from my male friends what boys thought about when they were dating.
When I got to college I already knew some people at the school. Of course freshman girls wanted to hang out with guys over 21. There was one that I kind of dated. I learned from him that if they call you at 2 am to pick them up from the bars that they aren't marrying material. I recently metioned the guys I sent back to their exs. Dated a guy that was too into drugs and went back to his ex. Dated another guy that I fell really hard for but he went back to his ex too. There was the guy that lived across the street that dated the girl who worked in our apartment complex too.
Obviously I have dated! Honestly, I have never broken up with someone. I am a loyal person. Poor original high school boyfriend still kicks himself that he cheated on me. He sees that I am loving and loyal and we might still be together. Obviously that isn't why I am still with Hubby. But it was different being with someone for a long amount of time. I am a reflective person. I asked myself if he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Every time the answer was yes. I listed 10 reasons I love him on our wedding day. So I won't do that again. Everything in my heart, my mind, my soul tells me he is the person I am met to be with. He is the future father of my children. Sorry if you have doubts. But that isn't even really my problem. I was doing you a favor writing this.

I'm a hooker, but I don't kiss on the lips
So I am going to be basing future posts on number of comments. So if you like the topic of a post please comment so I will keep it coming.
So far I guess you guys are enjoying the posts about my hair, my rings, celebs/tv shows, and when I get awards.
You will have to start passing out more awards if you want me to keep doing those posts. My award post was abysmal though.
I was all ready to take a picture of my rings together last night and realized I had left my camera in my car. It has been cold and rainy so I did not go outside to get it. My apologies! I will try to remember to bring it in the house tonight. So keep your fingers crossed for wedding ring post tomorrow. Friday we have another installment of Hubby and I's epic love story.
I have been searching for more hairspiration lately. Maybe I'll do a photo shoot this weekend for you guys for next week. I'm playing with instyle.com's celeb hair thing that puts celeb hair on your picture right now.
I was so tempted to do a post yesterday when I saw this nugget on people.com. But I saved it for you today. I know you all lurve the svu. Probably you all loved the oc back in the day. Well get ready because Mischa is going to be on svu!!! Of course she will be playing a hooker (oh sorry, pro) named Gladys. It airs March 3rd!
In Bachelor news, so confused about the whole Tenley being pregnant thing. Is that going to be in next weeks episode? Glad Michelle is gone. I thought Elizabeth's no kiss strategy was a good one. But it totally blew up in her face. I think he should have got rid of Jessie. She is boring.

Mini Calendars!! (warning post may be offensive)
At lunch last week Hubby was telling me how his mini calendar he got from a vendor at work has phone numbers for airlines and hotels. I told him he should put it in his purse. He didn't even laugh! It was a slow day at work and he was putting important dates in his calendar. So later on that day I decided to look at my tiny calendar given to me by some other company. I told him mine had maps and cpr instructions so his little calendar could take that! He said his did too. :( Then this converstion happened:
Meagan:
mine has quotes every week
Hubby:
HUH?
Me:
oh no tidbits of wisdom in your calendar?
Me:
mine even has one from paula abdul!!
Hubby:
NO WAY
Me:
admit it my tiny calendar is better than yours
Me:
and garth brooks
Hubby:
he is a homo (I apologize for Hubby. He isn't anti gay or anything just uses unpolitically correct words)
Me:
um what did you just say?
Me:
he is married to Miss Trisha Yearwood
Hubby:
homet
Me:
what is a homet?
Hubby:
a girl homo
Me:
did you just make that up?
Hubby:
its a real word
Me:
lots of unknown comments
Me:
homet- no dictionary results (copy and pasted this from dictionary.com)
No results found for homet:
Did you mean hemet?
I just think that is hilarious. Homet. Classic.
I was looking through the book some more realizing we don't have much going on this year when I stumbled across this gem, "You should live your own life up to your own expectations." -Tiger Woods. I guess he has low expectations!

Once again a hot mess
Something similar to this happened yesterday. I allowed people to come over for the football game because that is what the guest of honor wanted. The guest of honor was my friend Ty. He is leaving on our birthday Feb. 1st for South America for two years. He joined the peace corps. He is going to the east coast and trying to see everyone before he leaves so yesterday was our last chance to see him. He mentioned he might start a blog while he is away. I will let you know if he does. I feel like two years is such a long time! I am worried that keeping in touch will be difficult. I am definitely going to miss him this summer. Summers he is home from college and the whole group hangs out a lot.
So we got the apartment all nice and clean and then had people over. We ate tons of junk food and drank beer. So the apartment is messy and I am tired.
I forgot to do a post on Jan. 11th our three month anniversary! How quickly we forget huh!
I am feeling the need to plan something. My birthday is in two weeks and I have nothing planned. I always get lost in the shuffle because so many other people have birthdays around the same time as me.
Maybe we will plan a trip to San Francisco.
My mom is going to be here soon so I have that to look forward to!

Writer's Workshop
I guess Mama Kat moved to another bloggy address and I don't know how to follow people that don't have a follow button. Lucikly someone else I follow did a writer's workshop post so I was able to find Mama Kat again.
There are lots of good prompts this week. Hard to choose one.
2.) If you could have given yourself a snapshot five years ago of what your life is like now, what would the picture be of and how do you think you would have felt about it?
I would send myself a picture from my wedding. Maybe one with all the bridesmaids and groomsmen in it. My 20 year old self would be happy to know that she was married to the amazing guy she fell in love with. I think she would be shocked to know that her best friend Amy was not her Maid of Honor and was not even a bridesmaid. She would be happy to see her cousins and best friends from high school were her bridesmaids. She wouldn't know who the brunette in the fourth spot was (now my future sister in law). She might be surprised to see none of her college friends as bridesmaids. She might also be surprised that Hubby's best friend at the time was not a groomsmen (Sad that we both lost best friends in 5 years). She would be happy to see that the boys her friends were dating at the time were Hubby's groomsmen. She probably wouldn't be surprised by the Target boys being groomsmen.
She would love the wedding dress I picked out. She would probably wonder where we got married because it is no where she has ever been before. She would probably be surprised that it took 5 years to get married.
What she wouldn't be able to tell from the picture:
That Hubby and her are now living in Southern California and that she is did get her teaching credential but is not teaching. She wouldn't be able to tell that her adorable bunny Blue is still alive and loving the apartment. She wouldn't know that she bought a 2008 Nissan Altima just like she had when she first got her license, silver this time instead of ruby red. She wouldn't be able to see that when she moved to Southern California that she found life long friends that sacrificed a lot to travel and be at her wedding. She wouldn't be able to see the 130 friends and family members that were there. She wouldn't know that those former best friends that weren't in the bridal party weren't at the wedding. That the only college friend there was one she met during her credential program.
She wouldn't know that her cousin J was married to a man that loves her more than she ever expected and is planning to take on the family business. That she would have a house in the same zip code as her parents and two little doggies. She wouldn't know that her other cousin K was married too and that they had made the most precious baby boy (especially since she lost the baby weight in the blink of an eye). She wouldn't know that K lives a few hours from home in a cute house with their silly dog too. She wouldn't know how crazy fun her future sister in law is. She wouldn't know that her friend T was engaged and had a house with her fiance close to home with a terror kitty. She wouldn't know that N was living in SLO (abbreviation for a city in California). She wouldn't know that S was married, living 15 mins from her in Southern California, and preggo (we didn't even know at the wedding)!

As a tribute to the guy who sang this on Idol
*did it again, posted it on 09! Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I haven't done a lyrics post in awhile because of the hot rollers, Christmas, and New Years. Not that I haven't been thinking about it. I am going to post the lyrics to a great Garth Brooks song that a guy on Idol last night did shame to. Love these lyrics! My comments are in purple. Enjoy:
Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping (I don't think Hubby has ever done that)
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her every day (Probably everyone needs to ask themselves this)
That she's my only one
If my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes (I think that is such an interesting question. Probably no one really knows that answer.)
'Cause I've lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second chance
To tell her how I feel
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her every day
That she's my only one
If my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking of
If tomorrow never comes (Great advice Garth. You always know what to sing.)

engagement ring
fyi: I just had a mini panic attack cause I couldn't find this blog. Don't worry I posted in Jan 09 cause I can't remember what year we are in.
My dad is the oldest of 12 siblings. I was able to see almost all of them the month of my wedding. I would say for most families this large and with so many complicated parts, this is amazing. I love my uncles and aunts a lot. Like in any family people sometimes get upset for different reasons. I hope that anyone in my family that does read this does not embrace the temper side. I discussed whether or not I should include this information in a post with my dad. I told him I usually try to avoid anything I think might cause drama. But it seemed important that I share this story. It is a story I tell to anyone that admires my ring so I shouldn't be afraid what my family's reaction might be. Phew.... here goes the ring post.
I don't know all the details, but I am pretty sure when my great grandmother passed away, my dad flew to the East Coast to help my grandma with the funeral. Grandma and my Dad went through great-grandma's apartment to start clearing out all her stuff and my Grandma asked my Dad if he thought her jewelry was real or not. They both thought it was costume jewelry and Grandma said "Meagan and her friends can use it to dress up." I think my mom thought they should have some of her jewelry looked at just in case any of it was real. They found out there was a ring that had a real diamond in it and thought it would be special if, I was ever able to find a guy that wanted to marry me (that was always their joke), he could use the diamond in an engagement or wedding ring. As my memory serves me (you all know its not good), they told me about this diamond before Hubby and I started dating. I thought it was amazing but like I have said before never really thought about getting married until I met Hubby.
After about a year of dating I knew Hubby was the one for me. I asked my parents to email me pictures of my great grandmother's ring. I loved the ring but the setting seemed to have different types of metals and wasn't very shiny. When I was looking through some magazines one day I found an add for some Tacori engagement rings that looked similar to my great grandmother's ring. I actually tore out two ads and gave them to my parents to put with the ring in case Hubby asked for my hand in marriage and they gave him the diamond. The funny thing was when my parents found the clippings around Christmas time this year. One of them is almost exactly my engagement ring and wedding band and the date on it is 2006. Hubby and I started ring shopping in Oct. 2008. Scary.
After living together for six months and dating for 4 years or so, I had a dtr (define the relationship) talk with Hubby. He said he didn't want to get married until he was 26 years old. Still don't know where he got that idea. So I said how about getting married in 2009? He turned 26 Dec. 2008 and January '09 was our 5 year anniversary. He agreed. Fast forward to summer/fall '08 I was working at Nordstrom and if a guy wants to buy a diamond to propose to you they can use your discount. So we started ring shopping.
I ended up not liking any of the rings at Nordstrom and quit working there. So I told Hubby we couldn't get any rings that I would have gotten a discount on. I was back to loving the Tacoris. We are both fuzzy as to why we were in a Devon's on Nov. 20th 2008. We had traveled north for Thanksgiving. We knew we were going ring shopping. Hubby hadn't asked my dad for my hand in marraige yet. I asked him if he needed me to get the ring to take shopping with us. I guess he had asked my dad for my hand in marraige and my dad had given him the ring. I wanted my dad to tell the story at our wedding but he was too wound up. Still haven't heard the story.
Devons had a Tacori that I loved, that my great grandmother's diamond would fit perfectly into. Hubby tried to bargain with them and told me to start looking at the non designer rings. Tacori is really strict about jewelers keeping their prices. If they find out prices are dropped they will pull the whole line from the store. Hubby got the store to take the tax off and BOUGHT MY DREAM RING!!!
My great grandmother's diamond was my something old at my wedding. Most people I tell the story too think it is really special. I wanted to make a shadow box with the setting my great grandmother's ring was in and her picture. I haven't gotten around to it. Right now her picture is displayed in my Tacori ring box were I put my rings whenever they aren't on my finger. When my dad and I were talking about this post he said, "Grandma Markey would be thrilled to know you love her diamond and that her memory lives on." I replied, "She knows."
After Hubby bought my engagement ring he told me the wedding band was going to have to be a lot less money. The story of the wedding band is next on the schedule.

Monkey Meat
I am working on a post about my engagement ring and wedding band. I need to take a picture of the two together in the sun light. I hope the sun is still out when I get home.
I found out today that my friend and work who also shares my birthday, which is coming up! Is planning on bringing monkey meat, yeah not like a funny name for some marinated chicken, meat from those furry animals with long tails.
Hubby heard this news and said he isn't sure if he is going to try it. I heard this news and when I asked if I would it eat said NO! and shook my head.
In my first post I talked about how I am a picky eater and don't like spaghetti os. But I don't know if I have expressed the extent to you all. One my wedding day my uncle wrote a blog about how I take the picky eater thing to a whole new level.
At the new job people have taken me to lunch or asked me if I like different foods and I always tell them I only like chicken nuggets. I tell them ask Hubby and he tells them, "Yep she only eats chicken nuggets and cheese fries".
Seriously, a guy just walked in from lunch and asked me if I had chicken nuggets for lunch and I said no we had pizza. He said, "cheese?" I said, "No pepperoni. I started eating pepperoni in sixth grade."
I will let you know what goes down with the monkey meat. I want an iphone or blackberry so I can take pictures more sly like.

This isn't la la land!
How do you deal with people who live in a dream land? I am a planner. I think everything out. People who don't do this drive me nuts! My problem is that I can't keep my mouth shut and let them continue to live in dream land. The thing that is even more frustrating is that when I try to burst their bubble they completely ignore the facts that I am giving them! When I hear their crazy plans that are never going to work I avoid the people because I don't want to go off on them. My hubby seems to not be bothered by the dream landers and I don't know how he does it. I was recently informed one of these never ending, never listening dream landers has made a decision that kind of affects my plan. Now I am left wondering if I should ignore their dream land plans and worry about my own realistic plan or if I should put off my own life so I keep the relationship closer. I emailed my wonderful friend T today about what is going on because she is not in dream land and gives great advice and is also kind of in a similar situation and she said I shouldn't let the dream landers slow my plan down. What do, you my wonderful frogs, think? Do you have people like this in your life? How do you deal with them?

Award! x2
Ok now I am posting this half way down post because work has overcome me again and I already started telling people they got the award. I suck at life, sorry!
Sorry this took so long! I was being lazy and didn't want to have to pass an award on to 10 people. Then look what happened, I got another award and now I have to pass awards on to 17 people! But I do love getting awards, so keep them coming! I also love being able to pass awards on. There are so many great bloggers out there!
I don't know if I like my mom being all technologically savvy. She got facebook to keep up with what is going on with Hubby and I. Now she has been keeping up with my blog. Because there is still nothing on tv, I called my parents last night. I talk to my parents on the phone often and for long amounts of time. I am an only child and we have the gift of gab. I was telling my mom about my day and she goes, "Yeah I already read your blog." Great! The best part of the conversation is she said, "did I read that you got an award? Did you get an award at work?" Me, "No, I got a blog award from another blogger." Her, "Well you can't put that on your resume." Luckily we still found things to talk about for 35 mins. *Update-Mom is coming to Socal for a visit in February! So excited!

Random
Work has been keeping me busy so I haven't had much time to form full thoughts for a post. I need to do a post for the award I got. I will try to do that tomorrow. We have the third instalment of six years ago coming up towards the end of the month, I think the 22nd. So stay tuned!
Hubby went to the dentist yesterday. In case you missed what happend you can go back and read Hubby's teeth. He ended up getting a root canal right then and there! I felt so bad for him! But he is a total trooper and came back to work afterwards. Neither of us have had a root canal before. We don't know if we should be mad at the dentist who did the filling of the cavity. The dentist that did the root canal said the root probably died because of trauma caused by the filling of the cavity. We are looking for other dentists.
Update on Casey Johnson stuff: I was in a hurry this morning to eat breakfast. So instead of turning on a recorded show I just left it on whatever channel it was on. The Today show came on and they did some teasers. I got excited because they were going to talk about Casey Johnson, but they started talking about the senator that is retiring. People prioritize here! People.com doesn't seem to have any updates. I guess they were just going to talk about her high profile life.
I will admit I do not watch the news. I get my news from the View, which has been in repeats lately, or if something on the yahoo homepage catches my interest I will click and read. Yesterday, I got my news when they interupted my Days of our Lives (yes I watch a soap opera let's not get into that now) with the President's speech about the Dec. 25th explosives on the plane thing. Yes I saw that story on yahoo. I did not click and read further. I think it is good the President is pissed that this happened. What bugs me is how everyone is calling it the Christmas Day bomb threat scare. My argument is that as a teacher I had to be careful what I said about winter break and spring break. If a teacher has to be politically correct, why doesn't the president?! Why can't they call it the December 25th bomb threat scare? Try it, it isn't that much harder. Because I was too lazy to get up and fast forward through his speech I listened while we were eating dinner. While I was listening I was wondering how the guy even got the explosives on the plane. I looked at CNN.com for more info. They just said that the explosives were hidden in his underwear. I guess they weren't metal. I feel like we have put up with so much already at the airports they might as well do the full body xray thing and be done. I always thought it was so crazy that they made me take my sweatshirt and shoes off. I guess they can't make you wear tight pants or take your pants off.
This just in: Carrie Underwood is going to be on How I Met Your Mother! So exciting!

Because I am your TMZ
In a previous post I told you about Tila Tequila's engagement to Casey Johnson. Then my frogs told me she is the heiress to the Johnson and Johnson fortune. Well guess what?! She died at age 30. I'm guessing you my readers were like myself and hadn't heard of her before. Apparently she also dated Courtenay Semel, daughter of Yahoo guru guy. Tila dated Courtenay too. I guess there aren't very many lesbians in Hollywood for them to date. I guess Casey had a nasty fight with Courtenay that resulted in her hair catching on fire?! She also leaves behind a toddler daughter she adopted.

Why hasn't anything else come out about Brittany Murphy's death? I feel like their was tons of coverage when her death was first announced and there has been nothing.

My Christmas Vacation part 2
So Christmas Eve morning, Dad ate breakfast with the in-laws and I and then was off to see his favorite child, the dog. Hubby's fam and I had plans to meet up with some family friends at the bowling alley. I don't think I shared with you the amazingness that is my bowling technique. The first time I went bowling this decade was for our work christmas party this year. I got a 52 and was made fun of the whole next day. So I was given some pointers by dear old Dad and figured around friends and family I might do better. I started off with an amazing 92. Then I struggled and had a 78. In the last game I had a 110 in the 8th frame, and they shut the game off!! Hubby did better than at the holiday party too. I had fun spending time with our friends and family.
Then we had to go back to the house and get ready for Christmas Eve dinner. The amazing cook that is my mil made a prime rib roast, roasted potatoes, and garlice sourdough bread. We are so spoiled! I must have started watching A Christmas Story at 10 because I didn't finish watching it until 12. I had never seen it before and Hubby's family loves it. I love it now too and hope it is a tradition we continue. You have to see it once so you know what is going on, cause its a crazy movie. But waking up Christmas morning and turning it on while we wait for the parents to wake up was probably my favorite.
As I said, I watched Christmas Story until midnight. Then we went to bed so Santa didn't skip our house because we were awake. We woke up around 9:30 and went out to the stocking room. Brother (in law) was already awake and playing Madden. Then the parents got up shortly after and we opened our stockings.
Then we had home made cinnamon rolls and bacon for breakfast. Another new tradition I am a fan of was mimosas! Then we opened presents. We realized we were running a little behind when Aunt K and cousin M came over. They told us they weren't going to come over until around 1 and we thought we would have been gone by then. Not still unwrapping presents in our pjs!
We finished up presents and raced to get showered and packed up. That was my least favorite part. I wish we could lolly gag and get to everyone's houses. I don't know how people do more than two houses in one day!
The drive to my cousin J's wasn't too bad. The hubby and I kept ourselves entertained while singing duets to Christmas songs. Dad was already at J's cause he figured out like I did that the stepbrother (dog) is boring. My cousin K has a 9 month old that is the pride and joy of the family. We all adore him and love to make him smile. I think Hubby was a little bored with the baby. He says hi to him and stuff but doesn't really get into the loud noises and cooky faces the rest of us do.
Then on Boxing Day (Canadian holiday, have I mentioned I am half Canadian?), we had "Christmas morning" with my parents. We did stockings again and had cinnamon rolls again, and opened more presents!
Then I took Hubby to get his H1N1 shot. We went to Target for some cheap wrapping paper and labels. We met up with the high school friends again. This time two of the boys we were friends with that hadn't come last time were able to join us. Love catching up with everybody and hearing who is divorced, getting married, having babies, etc.
Then we had to leave dinner and get home since we were leaving early in the morning. We had a wonderful Christmas. So glad we were with family. I loved making new traditions with Hubby and I hope all the families become closer as the years go on.
