Still no period

*Warning- talking about female things today or as we refer to issues in our family "plumbing".

Chase was born May 1st, 2011.We didn't use any medical interventions to conceive Chase. My cycles are a little longer than normal.  I haven't nursed Chase since August 25th, 2012. Today is October 23rd, 2012. My last period was July of 2010. I am not pregnant.

You might be shocked by this. I have been in a few mom groups on Facebook and there wasn't anyone else in my same situation. I was starting to get worried. I was hesitant to google becase Dr. Google always tells you that you have cancer. I did Google and did see messages from other people on message boards that were in my same situation.

I went to the doctor today for my annual exam and was anxious to discuss what was going on. As I expected, I was told that I was still in the normal range. I wanted to talk about this today in hopes that someone else in my same situation is comforted by the fact that they are not alone. Some women get their periods 6 weeks after their child is born even if they are exclusively breast feeding. Some women, like myself, nurse for a long time and might not get their period back for 6 months after weaning.

I guess I'll also disclose that we are not using any birth control in hopes of getting pregnant again. This complicates things a little because it is possible for me to get pregnant without ever having a period, though rare. If there is no recent last period date with a pregnancy they like to have an ultrasound done by 6 weeks to get the dates correct. Which makes this momma that didn't get to see her sweet boy's face until 13 weeks happy. Which means I need to be taking pregnancy tests like every 2 weeks. So I know you bloggers have already done the research. Where do I get the most inexpensive pregnancy tests?

The plan is if I am not pregnant by January and still haven't had a period, to go in and get a blood pregnancy test and a thyroid test and then jumpstart things with some progesterone.

I feel so much better after my appointment! I really think Chase will be getting to wear a big brother shirt in 2013!

  1. That is super frustrating to say the least, but at least you have a plan. I bought a whole bunch of super cheap tests from http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/ . Get the super sensitive ones (10miu/mL). I have also heard that dollar store tests are just as sensitive and good as the others. Choose pink dye over blue:-)

  2. I'm so glad the Dr. told you it is normal! I had a feeling but didn't want to say just in case. How exciting, 2013!

  3. I agree look for the super sensitive ones and stay away from digital, they have a tendency to be wrong. Lots of luck!

  4. Oh it's so strange how every woman is different when it comes to getting her cycle back! I second http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com We went through several years of infertility and it was a lifesaver to have a huge packet of tests from them! They're super affordable in bulk and the same sensitivity as the ones the Drs use. Good luck to you!

  5. I haven't commented on your blog in ages, but I just wanted to say I know your frustration. I had a 108 day cycle after coming off birth control last year. I got pregnant on the following cycle, miscarried, waited 3 months, then induced my period with progesterone, and got pregnant on the following cycle. From the time I went off birth control to the time I got pregnant with this baby (due 11/17), it took 10 months. I know it's frustrating for some women to get negative tests month after month, but man, waiting to ovulate and not getting the opportunity to get pregnant was torture at times. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with you, it will happen, but I know how hard it is to wait. It's not for everyone, but I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and charting on Fertility Friend. Taking pregnancy tests every two weeks while I was waiting to ovulate would have been hard emotionally on me I think. But if you do want to do that, I recommend Wondfo. They're super sensitive too!

  6. With our first, I was exclusively bfing and I got my cycle back when she was 6 months. With our second, I didn't get it back until he was 13 months. It might be totally different with your second also.
Good luck with baby #2! :)

  8. As someone who has their period right now, I'm jealous! I'm not TTC thought, I know I'd feel differently if I were. I MIGHT be TTC next summer, but it depends on if we've moved or not. I hope you get your period back soon so you can TTC!

I'd order tests in bulk off of Amazon or get dollar store ones.

  9. We're currently trying for another baby now, too. We're having to use fertility meds again, though. I hope your period comes back soon! Or you get a BFP first!! I've also been taking pregnancy tests about once a month! :) The Dollar Store will often have some, and we've actually sometimes found really cheap tests by the check out lines at WalMart, random I know!

  10. I didn't get my period for almost a year after Emily was born! I just recently stopped breastfeeding. I didn't mind though :). But I guess if you are trying to get pregnant that would be a little annoying to have to take so many tests!! Do they sell them at the dollar store?

  11. I forgot to write back and say that I know a few moms in the same situation. It is normal :)
As you know. And the $1 store has tests!! FOR $1! I have like 20 :)
