In case you didn't know, I'm totes obsessed with Twitter. I checked it like all day long and tweet about my thoughts and questions. It keeps me sane while I wait for this baby to make his appearance. Maybe I'm just hormonal but there are some things I think need to be addressed. We need to set some guidelines. Therefore, twitiquette.
1) Make sure when giving advice that there is a ?
I understand people are posting their thoughts and pictures and stuff and sometimes you think of a comment to share. Perfectly fine. Some people seem to forget about the meaning of a ? and a . For example, I often complain about how this baby will not come out. I'm sure you are all tired of reading about it. This is not me asking advice on how to get the baby out.

2) This is an a-b conversation so c your way out of it
Sometimes people are having a conversation on twitter. When the topic is jeans at Costco and how they don't sell long sizes it is ok to jump in and say you wear size long too. If someone asks someone else a question you don't need to jump in with an answer.
3) Prayer requests are special
I think it is so amazing how much prayer from bloggers or twitter friends can help people. But I think we are getting a little carried away. Prayer requests for towns devastated by tornadoes, for people with children in the NICU, for cancer, etc. Totally ok and great and wonderful!
4) If you have a problem with someone direct message them
Hopefully, following these guidelines will create for a less drama filled place. But if some drama does happen twitiquette is to direct message the person. We are pretty good at figuring out who your passive aggressive tweet is referring to and it just gets ugly. Isn't drama usually just a result of a misunderstanding too? Maybe you could save yourself the ugly awkward and keep a friend.
Did I forget anything? Anything you would add?

ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree with your list. I don't mind if someone pipes in with a suggestion if I specifically asked someone else IF they seem to know what they are talking about. But if they don't or they give stupid advice, I will just ignore them. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like this post. I think Twitter should post it as part of their TOS! LOL! :)
ReplyDeletehaha! I loved our tall jeans @ Costco tweets! I can't believe I wasn't following your blog until now... I'm fired! Great advice! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog and I love it {I'm now following)! I don't tweet, but I facebook and I think your rules could be used there too. I hate when people put there drama as their status, it's just tacky.
