Dreams Do Come True

I'm back kids! I had a crazy busy week followed by a crazy busy weekend away from home! My suitcase and dirty laundry are still laying on the floor by the front door! I don't know how I can feel like I need a day off after a four day weekend. Hoping to have a productive/relaxing weekend. Can't decide if I will enjoy the relaxing more on Sunday if Saturday is productive. Probably. Probably won't happen though.

Not only am I behind on my laundry, I am super behind on my tv shows. So excited by the way for summer shows!! So I just watched the One Tree Hill finale last night. I heard my "friend" Geena's blog about the episode on Tuesday May 26th when I was driving to work. But hearing it and watching it last night made me think.

While they were all contemplating life this was said, "Take a look at your self in the mirror. Who is the person looking back? Is it the person you want to be? Or is there someone else you were meant to be? The person you should've been but fell short of. Is someone telling you you can't or you won't? Because you can. Believe that love is out there. Believe that dreams come true everyday because they do. Sometimes happiness doesn't come from money or fame or power. Sometimes happiness comes from good friends and family and from the quiet nobility of living a good life. So take a look in that mirror and remind yourself to be happy because you deserve to be, believe that. And believe that dreams come true everyday because they do."

This time last year I was having a similar struggle to this year. I struggle with finding a job just for the summer or making a career change because my chosen profession seems impossible to get into. The reality of that dream not coming true had be really upset yesterday but after watching one tree hill (yes i know thats sad) I started thinking about what dreams of mine have come true.

I told my fiance today that I am so glad I am marrying him for so many different reasons. We all know after the five years we dated that marrying him really is a dream come true. Another kind of silly dream of mine is coming true tomorrow, which I will talk about more later. My point is that I can see some dreams coming true and I have to keep hoping that some day my professional dream will come true. But if it doesn't, the rest won't be too shabby!

Jon and Kate plus 8

I am a huge fan of the show Jon and Kate plus 8. I think their kids are so cute. They say the funniest things. What is going on in the media with them right now is devastating. At dinner tonight with my friend Nicole we both admitted that all of this is breaking our hearts. To go from watching this family fly to hawaii last season and renew their vows to show their children that they are always going to be together to now she is on the cover of people saying they might split up? The big shocker for me is that her brother is coming out saying negative things about her. I don't know what family would do that to each other.

It seems like time and time again these people go on a reality show and then it ruins their life. Do you think maybe its time to stop going on reality shows people? The new season of Jon and Kate starts on memorial day and TLC is saying its their story in their words but I heard they aren't really going to discuss their problems on the show. We will see and only time will tell. As Curtis said, "How can you get a divorce when you have that many kids?" Don't know and like they said on the radio child support for 8 kids is gonna be expensive!

Getting in shape

As I said in my first blog I am trying to get in shape for my honeymoon. I think we all know that "I want to look great in a bikini" feeling. I have weighed about the same for the last seven years or so. I can remember a time in college when I was dancing every day. My aol instant messenger even said if I am not here I'm probably at Acker because I had classes there all day long. I stepped on the scale at this time and saw the highest weight I've ever seen. Now I know muscle weighs more than fat, but I don't like the number I see! After Curtis and I got engaged we got a really bad flu, no not the swine flu, but he had a 103 temperature at one time. I weighed myself after being sick and I was about 6 pounds lighter than I am now. So obviously since being sick I have gained 6 pounds. 6 pounds in about 2 or 2 1/2 months of watching calories and increasing my cardio! Why is this happening?

I got a magazine yesterday and one of the tid bits in it was if you struggle with losing that last 5 pounds that you are genetically supposed to have them. I feel like thats just going to give people an excuse to give up on losing those last five pounds. I also don't know what my last five pounds would be. My mom and dad went on a cruise and had all these crazy body fat tests done or something and they told them how much weight they need to lose so my mom reached her goal they set for her which is so great. I need someone to tell me how much weight I need to lose.

Planning on going to the lake today and maybe doing these ab moves

Dane Cook

Ok, I was planning on writing this blog later once the future hubby was home, we had gone on our walk, and he was watching his show (Mad Money). I was also not sure what I was going to write my blog about. The thing that got me up off the couch and drying my tears (today's Oprah, which I think I will discuss tomorrow) was a clip of the man whose name is the title of this blog.
I have to give credit where credit is due. My future brother in law introduced me to Dane Cook the first summer I went camping with the H* family. (ok just cleaned the bathroom, took the trash out and moved my car in 18 mins. I think thats impressive) Anyways, my future family is amazing and we always have a hilarious time camping. The year of Dane Cook Jeff and his friend kept saying stuff about Cinnamon bits and kicking their shoes off in a fleet of joy. Finally one night sitting around the camp fire they let me listen to Dane Cook's Retaliation cd. It was hilarious. We went out and bought all the cds available, have seen every movie, and are huge fans now. IN FACT WE ARE GOING TO SEE DANE LIVE IN MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I'm not excited!
Continuing on, one of my favorite jokes is his joke on rough around the edges "Pedophiles". Hilarious if you've ever watched Oprah. I have always wondered if she had heard this joke, I figured she had but she didn't mention it, until... the other day on a hilarious episode of Oprah about sex with my favorite sex therapist who I'm guessing will also have a tv show in five years. I won't go into details but she totally sounded like Dane's impression of herself. Then, what to my wondering eyes should appear but a clip for tomorrow's show and guess who is on it...DANE COOK! I could do a happy dance right now! I am so excited that I might not wait until 4:20 to watch the show. That's the time you have to wait to if you want to fast forward through the commercials, fyi.

Let me introduce myself

I think Martina McBride said it best “This is for all you girls about 25. In little apartments, just tryin' to get by. Livin' on, on dreams and spaghettios. Wonderin' where your life is gonna go.”.
I’m a 25 year old currently living in southern California. 600 square feet? I would say that’s a little apartment. I am a substitute teacher so I am definitely just tryin’ to get by. I eat like a 6 year old, very picky, but getting better, so picky in fact I don’t like spaghettios. I am definitely wonderin’ where my life is gonna go.
Earlier this year one of the pieces fell in place when the love of my life proposed to me. So I at least know who I am going to spend the rest of my life with. The rest? No clue! Which if you know me at all, you know bugs the heck out of me!
Although my last name will be changing soon I am beginning to realize how much of a D* I am every day. I think this has to do with the fact that I am getting to know some of my 11 aunts and uncles (yeah we’ll get to that stuff later) better because they are on facebook. One of these, my favorite uncle, (sorry guys there are enough of us to go around you are probably all someone’s favorite) Chris is the one who inspired me to do many things in life, one of which is write this blog. I can also guess most of the D’s were annoyed by that badly written sentence.
I some of the things I have in common with my uncle are genetic. I think the desire to teach is. My father was a great teacher to me and I believe would have been an amazing teacher to a lot of students if he had taken that route in life. This whole writing thing is definitely genetic. We all love to write and talk. I think going to the same college he did had to do with the fact that he is an amazing teacher and I knew several amazing teachers that came from the same college. I’m sure that’s not where the commonalities end.
I apologize if the grammar is bad. I’m not going to write college level essays. I do plan to write about my experiences as a substitute teacher, my upcoming wedding and our life after, more about my crazy family, my wonderful friends, books, tv, music and getting in shape.
For today let me address that last one. My whole life I have been tall and skinny. When I see some girls today I think: was I ever that skinny? I really want to look back at pictures because I don’t think I was. I do remember being excited to finally fit into juniors clothes. I am probably annoying some people that know me because I am not over weight. When I worked at Nordstrom’s women would always tell me if I looked like you this would look good on me. When can get into that too later. Anyways, I have always eaten whatever and however much I wanted. I have also always danced several nights a week. In the two years I have been living in San Diego I think I have bordered on letting my love for cookie dough and laziness take over. Now I do have a wedding coming up, but luckily my dress is amazing and I only have a little bit to do to get in shape for that. I want to look good for my honeymoon in Santa Barbara! So I try to watch my calories and my fiancĂ© and I are going to try and run/walk at the lake after work.

*My father is super paranoid about what you put about yourself on the internet. When he sold things on craiglist he never had them come to his house. Then comes along the craigslist killer so I think some of his paranoia is good and I try to be careful.
